Infiniti and Pirelli team up for Project Black S performance tires for hybrid vehicles

Deep in the midst of a complete lineup makeover, Infiniti has yet to add a hybrid car to their performance vehicle lineup. The variant is almost a standard offering across the luxury marketplace with BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi all offering some sort of traditional or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.

Infiniti is using its Formula One relationships to develop their forthcoming hybrid car. First announced in March, the details of Infiniti’s plans for a hybrid powertrain and vehicle modifications has been slowly coming out. Dubbed “Project Black S,” the forthcoming model’s power will come from an engine and motor combination that has been designed in collaboration with Renault Sport Formula One Team.

“We are very excited about our ‘Project Black S’ and the work we are doing with Renault Sport Formula One Team on performance hybrid technology,” said Volpe. “Having another key Formula One player involved is proof of the interest it generates and will add even more focus on performance delivery. As we explore the feasibility of ‘Project Black S,’ Pirelli’s input and knowledge – both motorsport and automotive – will be invaluable. We couldn’t be happier to have them onboard.”

Infiniti is teaming up with Official Formula One tire supplier Pirelli to being the process of creating an exclusive bespoke P Zero performance grade tire for a forthcoming hybrid vehicle. The tires will also available as part of Pirelli’s Color Edition.
