Jaguar teases 4-cylinder F-Type sound in new video

Just the other day we made the statement that a turbocharged engine doesn’t sound like a supercharged engine. That fact today remains true. The Jaguar F-Type, especially in that V6 S trim sounds like one of the best sports cars on the planet. But with Jaguar adding a 4-cylinder to the F-Type range, the main questions is about the sound.

Thanks to our friends at Jalopnik, we now have an idea of what it’ll sound like. Jaguar recently released a video emphasizing that the new engine doesn’t change the fact that the F-Type is a true Jaguar sports car.

So what do you think? It does sound sporty, even if the sportiness is more Focus RS than supercharged V8. The new engine should also be lighter, which is always welcomed in a sports car.

Of course Jaguar touts the new engine’s fuel economy and emissions, but on a low volume sports car, we don’t think that should be as large of a priority as the overall experience of driving.

While the new 4-cylinder will be less expensive than the V6, it’s not a significant price difference (as little as $1,500 depending on options), so it might not be a big seller here in the United States, but globally it could be a success. We’ll have to wait and see.
