Every single Jeep Wrangler is capable of off-roading. They all have four-wheel drive and a Trail Rated badge. But if you haven’t noticed, Jeep sells many different trims and editions of the Wrangler. So what happens if you want to buy the biggest, baddest, most-capable Wrangler on the block? You buy the all new 2017 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Recon.
The Rubicon Recon replaces the Hard Rock at the top of the range, and has all of the company’s most-extreme off-roading equipment. For starters, you get Dana 44 axles both front and rear, and of course they lock. A sway bar disconnect helps you articulate over the extreme rocks. Plus, you get addition undercarriage protection so you don’t get stranded on the trail with a broken differential or no oil.
Jeep’s Mike Manley — the best name ever in this business — had this to say about the Recon;
“With unmatched capability and a unique appearance, Rubicon Recon is the perfect Wrangler for our most loyal, diehard off-road enthusiasts who love to tackle the most demanding trails.”
There are some visual touches, too. Low gloss Granite Crystal wheels and special paint colors round out the special package.
It goes on sale later this month with a starting price of $39,145 for the two-door model and $42,295 for the four-door Unlimited version.
