Lately it seems like if Nissan is going to build a concept vehicle, it’ll be one that’s designed to off-road. Maybe it’s the influence of Fred Diaz? Maybe they just like badass off-roaders? For the 2017 Chicago Auto Show, they’re bringing out one of the craziest off-roaders yet. It’s called the NV Cargo X.
Based, obviously, on the NV cargo van, but it’s nothing like a NV you can buy at a dealership. It’s powered by a Cummins 5.0L V8 turbo diesel — the same that’s in the Titan XD — which makes 310 horsepower and 555 lb-ft of torque. A custom suspension was required for off-road work, and it also gives the NV Cargo X 22-inches of ground clearance.
Chunky off-road tires are a must, and the NV Cargo X has a set of 37-inch General Grabber 3X mud terrain tires.
When it comes to off-road support vehicles, we’re not sure we can think of anything better suited for the job. Of course, like lots of Nissan concepts as of late, they stay concepts. But they’ve also put some ridiculous concepts into production — you remember the Juke R, right? — so there’s always a chance you’ll see this available at some point.
