In conjunction with the Torque Reserve system, the 2018 Dodge Challenger Demon has some truly space-aged drag technology that only once appeared on not-street-legal cars. The Demon has a transmission brake, and it’s the real deal.
As part of the overall launch control system, the transmission locks the output shaft from the transmission when the system is engaged. That means you aren’t torquing the car against the brakes for a launch. It’s the first of such application on a road legal car, and while different in function provides launches the way a dual-clutch transmission does.
That means the driver doesn’t have to use the brakes for launches up to 2,350 RPM. That increases launch boost pressures by 105 percent and a 120 percent increase in engine launch torque.
